Study of a Forest Edge

I created this piece on a hand-stretched canvas, but I painted on the raw, unprimed side—a happy accident that became the whole point. The absorbent surface drinks in the paint differently, creating a muted, organic quality that felt right for what I was exploring. It's a simple landscape study: a forest edge meeting a blue sky, nothing complicated. Really, this was about the material itself—how raw canvas transforms color and texture, how it pushes back against the brush. The painting emerged from that conversation between paint and surface rather than from a predetermined image. It's a study in restraint and material discovery. 5x7
